Overview
A Welder is responsible for joining metal parts together using various welding techniques to create structures or repair damaged components. They play a critical role in manufacturing, construction, and maintenance projects, ensuring the integrity and strength of welded materials.
Duties
Welding Operations:
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, and welding symbols to determine welding requirements and specifications.
- Set up welding equipment, including welding machines, gas tanks, and safety gear, in accordance with welding procedures.
Metal Preparation:
- Prepare metal surfaces for welding by cleaning, grinding, and beveling to remove contaminants and achieve proper fit-up.
- Position and secure metal parts or assemblies using clamps, jigs, and fixtures to maintain alignment during welding.
Welding Techniques:
- Perform welding operations using various techniques such as arc welding, MIG welding, TIG welding, or oxy-acetylene welding, depending on the requirements of the project.
- Monitor welding processes, adjusting parameters as needed to achieve desired weld penetration, bead appearance, and quality.
Quality Control:
- Inspect welded joints for defects, such as cracks, porosity, or incomplete fusion, using visual inspection or non-destructive testing methods.
