Overview
A Warehouse Worker is responsible for performing various tasks within a warehouse or distribution center to ensure efficient operation and organization of inventory. They play a crucial role in receiving, storing, picking, packing, and shipping goods while maintaining cleanliness and safety standards within the warehouse.
Duties
Inventory Handling:
- Receive incoming shipments, verify contents against packing slips or purchase orders, and record received quantities into inventory management systems.
 - Organize and store incoming inventory in designated locations within the warehouse, ensuring proper labeling, stacking, and organization for easy retrieval.
 
Order Picking and Packing:
- Fulfill customer orders or internal requisitions by accurately picking items from warehouse shelves or storage areas based on order specifications.
 - Pack picked items into boxes, cartons, or containers, ensuring proper packaging, padding, and labeling to prevent damage during transit.
 
Shipping and Receiving:
- Prepare outgoing shipments for delivery or distribution by affixing shipping labels, arranging transportation, and coordinating with carriers or logistics providers.
 - Receive returned or rejected items, inspect them for damage or defects, and process necessary paperwork for returns or exchanges.
 
Inventory Management:
- Conduct regular cycle counts, stock audits, or inventory checks to maintain accurate inventory levels and reconcile discrepancies between physical counts and system records.
 - Monitor inventory levels of critical items, replenish stock as needed, and communicate inventory shortages or surpluses to supervisors or inventory managers.
 
Warehouse Maintenance:
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in warehouse areas, including aisles, storage racks, and workstations, by sweeping floors, removing debris, and disposing of waste materials.
 - Perform routine maintenance tasks on warehouse equipment, such as forklifts, pallet jacks, or conveyor systems, to ensure proper functioning and safety.
 
Qualifications
- Previous experience in warehouse operations, logistics, or a related field is beneficial but not always required.
 - Familiarity with inventory management systems, barcode scanners, and other warehouse technology.
 - Physical stamina and strength to lift, carry, and move heavy objects or packages and perform manual labor tasks in a fast-paced environment.
 - Attention to detail and accuracy in performing inventory counts, order picking, and packing tasks to minimize errors and discrepancies.
 - Effective communication skills to collaborate with coworkers, supervisors, and other warehouse staff.
 - Ability to follow safety protocols, including proper lifting techniques, PPE usage, and safe operation of warehouse equipment.
 - Flexibility to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and overtime as needed to meet operational demands.
