Overview

Utility Workers perform a variety of tasks to support operations in various settings, such as construction sites, manufacturing facilities, and public utilities. They are responsible for maintaining equipment, ensuring safety protocols are followed, and assisting skilled tradespeople as needed.


Duties

General Maintenance and Support

  • Assist in the maintenance and repair of machinery and tools, performing routine inspections and reporting any issues. Prepare work sites by clearing debris, setting up equipment, and ensuring all necessary materials are available. Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of work areas, including tools, machinery, and shared spaces.

Utility Operations

  • Support skilled tradespeople (e.g., plumbers, electricians) in their tasks, providing tools and materials as needed. Load and unload materials, ensuring proper handling and storage to prevent damage or accidents. Assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of utility systems, including water, gas, or electrical systems.

Safety Compliance

  • Follow all safety protocols and regulations, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhering to safe work practices. Identify and report any safety hazards or unsafe conditions to supervisors immediately.

Record Keeping

  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and any issues encountered during tasks. Assist in preparing daily activity reports for supervisors.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certifications in utility work or a related field are beneficial.
  • Previous experience in a utility or maintenance role is preferred but not always required.
  • Basic knowledge of utility systems and equipment; ability to operate hand tools and machinery safely.
  • Strong physical stamina, with the ability to lift heavy materials and perform manual labor in various weather conditions.
  • Strong focus on safety and detail to ensure quality work and compliance with regulations.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate clearly with colleagues and supervisors.
