Overview
The Truck Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing trucks and heavy-duty vehicles to ensure their safe and reliable operation. They play a crucial role in maintaining fleet vehicles, conducting preventive maintenance, and addressing mechanical issues to minimize downtime and maximize vehicle performance.
Duties
# Vehicle Inspection adn Diagnosis:
- Perform thorough inspections of trucks to identify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
- Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to diagnose problems accurately and efficiently.
# Repair and Maintenance:
- Repair and replace defective parts and components, such as engines, transmissions, brakes, and steering systems.
- Conduct routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes, tire rotations, and filter replacements.
# Preventive Maintenance:
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and extend the lifespan of trucks.
- Inspect and lubricate moving parts, check fluid levels, and perform other preventive maintenance tasks as needed.
# Troubleshooting and Testing:
- Troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues using diagnostic techniques and test equipment.
- Test repaired trucks to ensure they meet performance standards and safety regulations.
# Documentation and Record-Keeping:
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance tasks, and parts inventory.
- Complete service reports and documentation in a timely and thorough manner.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a truck mechanic or in a similar role.
- Knowledge of truck systems and components, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems.
- Familiarity with diagnostic tools and equipment, such as scan tools and multimeters.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills and ability to interact effectively with colleagues and customers.
- Certification in truck mechanics or relevant vocational training is preferred.
