Overview

The Truck Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing trucks and heavy-duty vehicles to ensure their safe and reliable operation. They play a crucial role in maintaining fleet vehicles, conducting preventive maintenance, and addressing mechanical issues to minimize downtime and maximize vehicle performance.


Duties

Vehicle Inspection and Diagnosis:

  • Inspect trucks and heavy-duty vehicles to identify mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic issues.
  • Diagnose problems using diagnostic tools, computerized systems, and manual inspections.

Repair and Maintenance:

  • Perform repairs on engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, suspension, and other truck components.
  • Replace or repair faulty parts, components, or systems to restore vehicle functionality.

Preventive Maintenance:

  • Conduct routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, and lubrication to prevent breakdowns and ensure optimal vehicle performance.
  • Follow manufacturer guidelines and maintenance schedules to maintain warranty coverage and prolong vehicle lifespan.

Troubleshooting and Testing:

  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical systems to identify root causes of problems.
  • Test vehicle systems and components to verify repairs and ensure proper operation.

Documentation and Record-Keeping:

  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance activities, and parts inventory.
  • Document service procedures, inspection findings, and recommendations for future maintenance or repairs.

Qualifications

  • Certification or formal training in diesel mechanics, automotive technology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a truck mechanic or heavy-duty vehicle technician.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, computerized systems, and shop equipment.
  • Knowledge of truck systems, components, and manufacturers' specifications.
  • Physical strength and stamina to lift heavy parts and perform manual labor.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
