Overview
The Tile Layer, also known as a Tile Setter or Tiler, is responsible for installing ceramic, porcelain, or natural stone tiles on various surfaces such as floors, walls, and countertops. They play a critical role in construction and renovation projects, ensuring the precise placement and aesthetic appeal of tiled surfaces.
Duties
# Surface Preparation:
- Prepare surfaces for tiling by cleaning, leveling, and priming as needed.
- Ensure surfaces are smooth, dry, and free from debris or imperfections.
- Apply waterproofing and crack isolation membranes as required.
# Tile Layout and Design:
- Plan and lay out tile designs according to specifications and client preferences.
- Determine tile placement, patterns, and spacing for optimal aesthetic appeal.
- Create custom designs and patterns as requested by clients.
# Tile Installation:
- Install tiles using various techniques, adhesives, and materials.
- Ensure proper alignment, spacing, and leveling of tiles for a seamless finish.
- Work with different types of tiles, including ceramic, porcelain, glass, and natural stone.
# Grounting and Finishing:
- Apply grout evenly and smoothly between tiles to fill gaps and create a uniform appearance.
- Clean excess grout and polish tiles to remove residue and enhance shine.
- Seal tiles and grout to protect against moisture and stains.
# Quality Control and Inspection:
- Conduct quality control checks to ensure the accuracy and integrity of tiling work.
- Inspect finished installations for defects, imperfections, and irregularities.
- Make necessary adjustments and repairs to meet quality standards.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a tile layer or in a related field.
- Strong knowledge of tiling techniques, materials, and tools.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
- Physical fitness and the ability to lift and carry heavy materials.
- Certification or training in tiling preferred.
