Overview

The Salvage Worker plays a crucial role in the recovery and recycling of materials from various sources, including construction sites, warehouses, and industrial facilities. This position involves disassembling, sorting, and processing salvaged materials for reuse or resale. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety, as well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.


Duties

Material Recovery

  • Identify and collect salvageable materials, such as metals, wood, appliances, and equipment, from designated sites.
  • Use hand tools and power tools to disassemble equipment and structures safely and efficiently.

Sorting and Categorization

  • Sort and categorize salvaged materials according to type and quality for recycling or resale.
    • Maintain accurate records of salvaged materials, including quantities and conditions, for inventory management and reporting purposes.

Processing and Preparation

  • Prepare salvaged materials for recycling by cleaning, cutting, and packaging as necessary.
  • Operate machinery and equipment, such as balers and shredders, to process materials in compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

Site Cleanup and Maintenance

  • Ensure job sites are kept clean and organized, removing debris and hazardous materials as needed.
  • Assist in maintaining tools and equipment, performing routine inspections, and reporting any malfunctions or repair needs.

Safety Compliance

  • Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to minimize risks and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Participate in safety training and meetings, staying informed about best practices and procedures.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Work collaboratively with team members to meet project goals and deadlines.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers regarding project progress, challenges, and any safety concerns.

Environmental Awareness

  • Promote environmentally responsible practices in the salvage and recycling process.
  • Stay informed about local regulations and best practices related to waste management and recycling.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred; vocational training or certifications in salvage, recycling, or a related field is a plus.
  • Previous experience in salvage work, construction, or waste management is beneficial but not required.
  • Basic mechanical skills and knowledge of hand and power tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Basic math skills for measuring and estimating quantities of materials.
  • Physical stamina and strength, with the ability to lift heavy objects and work in various weather conditions.
  • Strong work ethic and reliability, with a commitment to quality and safety.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
