Overview

We are looking for dedicated and reliable Road Workers to join our asphalt construction team. In this role, you will contribute to the construction, maintenance, and repair of roadways, parking lots, and other asphalt surfaces. This position requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety. Road Workers will engage in various tasks, including site preparation, material handling, and assisting with paving operations, playing a crucial role in delivering high-quality asphalt projects.


Duties

Site Preparation

  • Assist in preparing the job site by clearing debris, grading the surface, and ensuring proper drainage for effective asphalt application.
  • Set up and maintain traffic control measures, including cones, signs, and barriers, to ensure the safety of crew members and the public during construction activities.

Material Handling

  • Load, unload, and transport asphalt materials and related supplies to and from the job site, ensuring they are handled safely and efficiently.
  • Monitor and maintain the temperature and quality of asphalt materials, ensuring compliance with project specifications.

Paving Operations

  • Support the paving crew by performing tasks such as raking, shoveling, and spreading asphalt materials evenly across the designated area.
  • Operate hand tools and small equipment, including compactors and rollers, under the guidance of experienced operators to achieve the desired surface quality.
  • Ensure the proper thickness and alignment of asphalt during the paving process by assisting with adjustments as directed.

Quality Control

  • Conduct visual inspections of the asphalt surface during and after application to ensure it meets project specifications and quality standards.
  • Report any issues or discrepancies to the crew supervisor promptly for resolution.

Equipment Maintenance

  • Assist in the maintenance of tools and equipment, including cleaning, lubricating, and performing minor repairs as needed.
  • Help set up and dismantle equipment at the beginning and end of each workday to ensure smooth operations.

Safety Compliance

  • Adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations to maintain a safe working environment for all crew members.
  • Participate in safety meetings and training sessions to stay informed about best practices and safety procedures in the asphalt industry.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Work effectively as part of a team, assisting fellow workers in completing tasks efficiently and safely.
  • Communicate openly with the crew supervisor regarding project progress, material needs, and any safety concerns.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; prior experience in construction or the asphalt industry is a plus.
  • Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting heavy materials and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Basic knowledge of asphalt materials and paving processes is preferred but not required.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, with a positive attitude toward collaboration and learning.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and take on additional responsibilities as needed.
