Overview

Duties

Diagnostic Assessment:

  • Inspect vehicles or machinery to identify mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic problems using diagnostic tools, computerized systems, and manual tests.
  • Conduct thorough assessments of engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension systems, and other components to determine the root cause of issues.

Repair and Maintenance:

  • Perform repairs, adjustments, or replacements of defective parts, components, or systems, following manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
  • Conduct routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, fluid checks, filter replacements, and tire rotations to prevent breakdowns and ensure longevity.

Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving:

  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical issues by analyzing symptoms, conducting tests, and consulting technical manuals or service bulletins to find solutions.
  • Use problem-solving skills and critical thinking to develop effective repair strategies and resolve issues efficiently.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Document repair activities, including parts used, labor hours, and diagnostic findings, in service records or maintenance logs for reference and future analysis.
  • Provide clear and concise reports to customers, supervisors, or management regarding the status of repairs, recommended maintenance, and potential safety concerns.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Adhere to safety protocols, regulations, and industry best practices to ensure a safe working environment and prevent accidents or injuries.
  • Maintain compliance with environmental regulations and disposal procedures when handling hazardous materials, fluids, or waste products.

Qualifications

  • Certification or licensure as an automotive technician, diesel mechanic, heavy equipment mechanic, or related field is preferred but not always required.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment, hand tools, power tools, and specialized machinery for mechanical repairs and maintenance.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills to diagnose and repair a wide range of vehicle or equipment issues.
