Overview
Material Handlers are responsible for the efficient movement, storage, and management of materials and products within warehouses, manufacturing facilities, or distribution centers. They play a vital role in maintaining inventory accuracy and ensuring that materials are available for production and shipment.
Duties
Material Movement
- Safely load and unload materials from trucks, containers, and pallets using forklifts, hand trucks, or pallet jacks. Move materials to designated areas within the facility, ensuring proper placement and organization.
Inventory Management
- Organize and store materials in appropriate locations, adhering to inventory management systems and safety protocols. Conduct regular inventory counts and audits, reporting discrepancies or damaged goods to supervisors.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of materials received, moved, and shipped, ensuring that all documentation is completed and filed correctly. Update inventory management systems and databases to reflect current stock levels and locations.
Equipment Operation
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently, following all safety guidelines. Perform routine checks on equipment to ensure proper functioning, reporting any maintenance needs to supervisors.
Safety Compliance
- Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and proper handling techniques. Follow specific procedures for handling hazardous materials, if applicable, and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Collaboration and Communication
- Collaborate with warehouse staff, supervisors, and other departments to ensure smooth operations and timely material flow. Address any issues related to material handling or inventory discrepancies promptly, communicating effectively with team members.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant certifications in material handling or forklift operation preferred.
- Previous experience in a warehouse, manufacturing, or logistics environment is advantageous.
- Familiarity with inventory management systems and material handling equipment; ability to learn new technologies quickly.
- Strong physical stamina, with the ability to lift heavy materials and stand for extended periods.
- Strong focus on accuracy to ensure proper handling and tracking of materials.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate clearly with colleagues and supervisors.
