Overview

Ironworkers are responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of iron and steel structures. They work on various projects, including buildings, bridges, and other infrastructure, ensuring that structures are safe, stable, and built to specifications.


Duties

Installation

  • Assemble and install steel frameworks, girders, and other structural components according to blueprints and project specifications.

Welding and Cutting

  • Use welding and cutting equipment to join and shape metal parts, ensuring strong and durable connections.

Rigging

  • Safely handle and rig heavy materials using cranes and hoists, ensuring precise placement and alignment.

Inspection

  • Inspect structures and materials for quality and compliance with safety standards and building codes.

Maintenance

  • Perform repairs and maintenance on existing iron and steel structures, addressing any issues that may arise.

Collaboration

  • Work closely with other construction professionals, including engineers, architects, and general contractors, to ensure project timelines and specifications are met.

Safety

  • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines, wearing appropriate protective gear and participating in safety training programs.

Qualification:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an apprenticeship program preferred.
  • Prior experience as an ironworker or in a related construction field.
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints and technical drawings; skilled in welding, cutting, and rigging techniques.
  • Ability to lift heavy materials, work at heights, and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure precision in measurements and installations.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate clearly with colleagues.
