Overview
An Electric Welder, also known as an Arc Welder, is responsible for joining metal parts together using electric arc welding processes. They play a crucial role in manufacturing, construction, and repair projects, ensuring the structural integrity and quality of welded components.
Duties
# Welding Operations:
- Perform electric arc welding using various techniques to join metal components accurately.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and welding symbols to determine welding requirements.
- Operate welding equipment, such as MIG, TIG, or stick welders, in a safe and efficient manner.
# Metal Preparation:
- Prepare metal surfaces for welding by cleaning, grinding, and smoothing as necessary.
- Remove rust, scale, and other contaminants from metal surfaces to ensure proper weld penetration and adhesion.
# Electric Arc Welding:
- Set up welding equipment and adjust parameters, such as voltage, current, and wire feed speed, to achieve desired welding results.
- Monitor welding process and make adjustments as needed to maintain quality and consistency.
- Perform welds in various positions, including flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead.
# Quality Control:
- Inspect welded joints for defects, such as cracks, porosity, and incomplete fusion.
- Conduct visual and non-destructive testing (NDT) to verify weld quality and integrity.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards and specifications throughout the welding process.
# Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safe work practices at all times.
- Comply with welding codes, standards, and regulations applicable to the industry.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as an electric welder, preferably in a manufacturing or construction environment.
- Proficiency in electric arc welding techniques, including MIG, TIG, and stick welding.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and welding symbols.
- Strong attention to detail and quality orientation.
- Excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Relevant welding certification(s) preferred.
