Overview

An Electric Welder, also known as an Arc Welder, is responsible for joining metal parts together using electric arc welding processes. They play a crucial role in manufacturing, construction, and repair projects, ensuring the structural integrity and quality of welded components.


Duties

# Welding Operations:

  • Perform electric arc welding using various techniques to join metal components accurately.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and welding symbols to determine welding requirements.
  • Operate welding equipment, such as MIG, TIG, or stick welders, in a safe and efficient manner.

# Metal Preparation:

  • Prepare metal surfaces for welding by cleaning, grinding, and smoothing as necessary.
  • Remove rust, scale, and other contaminants from metal surfaces to ensure proper weld penetration and adhesion.

# Electric Arc Welding:

  • Set up welding equipment and adjust parameters, such as voltage, current, and wire feed speed, to achieve desired welding results.
  • Monitor welding process and make adjustments as needed to maintain quality and consistency.
  • Perform welds in various positions, including flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead.

# Quality Control:

  • Inspect welded joints for defects, such as cracks, porosity, and incomplete fusion.
  • Conduct visual and non-destructive testing (NDT) to verify weld quality and integrity.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards and specifications throughout the welding process.

# Safety and Compliance:

  • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safe work practices at all times.
  • Comply with welding codes, standards, and regulations applicable to the industry.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as an electric welder, preferably in a manufacturing or construction environment.
  • Proficiency in electric arc welding techniques, including MIG, TIG, and stick welding.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and welding symbols.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality orientation.
  • Excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Relevant welding certification(s) preferred.
