Overview

Divers play a crucial role in various industries, performing underwater tasks that range from inspection and maintenance to construction and salvage. Their work often involves operating in challenging and hazardous environments, requiring specialized training, equipment, and skills.


Duties

Underwater Inspections and Surveys:

  • Divers conduct visual inspections of underwater structures, such as bridges, pipelines, dams, and offshore platforms, to assess their condition, integrity, and potential risks.
  • They use specialized equipment, such as underwater cameras, sonar devices, and remotely

Maintenance and Repair Work:

  • Divers perform maintenance and repair tasks on submerged equipment, infrastructure, and vessels, including cleaning, welding, cutting, and fitting components.
  • They may inspect and replace underwater components, such as hulls, propellers, valves, and underwater pipelines, to ensure operational efficiency and safety.

Construction and Installation Projects:

  • Divers assist with underwater construction projects, such as building underwater structures, installing marine foundations, and laying underwater cables or pipelines.
  • They may work in collaboration with engineers, construction crews, and marine contractors to execute project plans and meet project deadlines.

Salvage and Recovery Operations:

  • Divers participate in salvage and recovery operations to retrieve lost or sunken objects, vehicles, or equipment from underwater environments.
  • They use rigging, lifting devices, and underwater cutting tools to secure and recover submerged assets, often under challenging conditions and time constraints.

Qualifications:

  • Possession of a recognized commercial diving certification, such as ADCI, HSE, or an equivalent certification from another recognized diving organization.
  • Completion of formal dive training programs covering topics such as dive theory, dive physics, dive physiology, underwater navigation, and emergency procedures.
  • Excellent physical condition and swimming proficiency to perform underwater tasks safely and effectively.
  • Proficiency in the use of dive equipment and tools, including diving masks, fins, wetsuits or drysuits, helmets, harnesses, air supply systems, cutting tools, welding equipment, and underwater cameras.

Divers' work requires a unique combination of physical fitness, technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and adaptability to operate effectively in underwater environments and contribute to a variety of industries and projects.
