Overview

As a diver, you will be responsible for performing underwater tasks and activities in various industries and environments. Your duties may include underwater construction, inspection, maintenance, repair, salvage operations, scientific research, photography and videography, search and rescue, and commercial diving for industries like oil and gas, shipping, aquaculture, and tourism. You will need to possess strong swimming abilities, physical fitness, and specialized training and certifications in diving techniques, safety protocols, and equipment operation.


Duties

Underwater Operations:

  • Perform underwater inspections, assessments, and surveys of structures, equipment, and natural environments.
  • Conduct underwater construction, maintenance, and repair activities such as welding, cutting, drilling, and concrete placement.

Scientific Research and Documentation:

  • Assist with scientific research projects by collecting data, specimens, and samples from underwater habitats.
  • Capture underwater images and videos for documentation, analysis, or promotional purposes.

Equipment Management:

  • Maintain and inspect diving equipment, ensuring it is in proper working condition and meets safety standards.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, scientists, and other team members to plan and execute underwater tasks effectively.

Emergency Response and Safety:

  • Respond to emergency situations such as search and rescue operations, underwater vehicle recovery, or diver assistance.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to mitigate risks associated with diving, including decompression sickness, equipment failure, and environmental hazards.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must hold a valid certification from a recognized diving organization such as the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI), Scuba Schools International (SSI), or the National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI). Certification levels may vary depending on the job requirements, but at minimum, candidates should have an Open Water Diver certification.
  • Experience in underwater construction, maintenance, salvage operations, scientific research, or other relevant fields is highly valued.
  • Diving can be physically demanding, requiring good cardiovascular health, strength, and endurance.
