Overview
A Dishwasher is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in a commercial kitchen by washing dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment. They play a critical role in ensuring that food service operations run smoothly and comply with health and safety regulations.
Duties
Dishwashing Operations:
- Load dirty dishes, utensils, and glassware into the dishwasher machine, ensuring proper arrangement and spacing for efficient cleaning.
- Operate commercial dishwasher equipment according to manufacturer instructions and safety protocols.
Hand Washing and Scrubbing:
- Hand wash and scrub pots, pans, and kitchen equipment that cannot be cleaned in the dishwasher, using hot water, detergent, and scrubbing pads.
- Remove food particles, grease, and stains from dishes and utensils to ensure cleanliness and sanitation.
Sanitization and Sterilization:
- Rinse washed dishes with clean water and apply sanitizing agents or solutions to kill bacteria and germs.
- Monitor dishwasher temperatures and chemical concentrations to ensure effective sanitization and sterilization of dishes and utensils.
Dish Storage and Organization:
- Unload clean dishes from the dishwasher and store them in designated racks, shelves, or storage areas.
- Organize dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment neatly to facilitate easy access and retrieval during food service operations.
Kitchen Cleanup and Maintenance:
- Clean and sanitize dishwasher equipment, filters, and drainage systems regularly to prevent buildup of food debris and contaminants.
- Sweep and mop kitchen floors, wipe down countertops, and remove trash and recycling materials to maintain cleanliness and orderliness in the kitchen.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a dishwasher or in a similar role in a restaurant, cafeteria, or food service establishment.
- Knowledge of proper dishwashing techniques, sanitation procedures, and health regulations.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Physical stamina and endurance to stand for long periods, lift heavy objects, and perform repetitive tasks.
- Attention to detail and thoroughness in dishwashing, sanitization, and kitchen cleanup activities.
