Overview

Crane technicians work on the maintenance and repair of cranes, which are heavy machines used to move building materials at construction sites.


Duties

Maintenance and repairs

  • Performing routine maintenance, such as lubricating and replacing parts, and fixing problems when cranes malfunction

Inspections

  • Conducting quality crane inspections and completing all necessary paperwork

Troubleshooting

  • Interpreting electrical drawings and schematics to determine equipment layout, and troubleshooting equipment problems

Load certification tests

  • Performing load certification tests

Safety

  • Maintaining safety policies and putting detailed safety and preventative measures in place

Record keeping

  • Carefully logging their work so that they have continuous records of the machine's condition

Technical assistance

  • Providing technical assistance during erection, dismantling, and climbing operations

Qualification:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification in crane maintenance or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a crane technician.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to work at heights and in various weather conditions.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and blueprints.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to lift heavy objects.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Basic computer skills for record-keeping and reporting
