Overview
A Cleaner is responsible for performing cleaning and sanitation tasks in various settings, ensuring a clean, safe, and hygienic environment for occupants or visitors. They play a crucial role in maintaining cleanliness standards and promoting health and wellness in residential, commercial, or institutional facilities.
Duties
General Cleaning:
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and scrub floors in designated areas, including hallways, lobbies, offices, and common spaces, to remove dirt, dust, and debris.
- Dust and wipe down surfaces, furniture, fixtures, and equipment using appropriate cleaning tools and products to maintain cleanliness and appearance.
Restroom Sanitation:
- Clean and disinfect restroom facilities, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, countertops, and fixtures, using sanitizing agents and germicidal cleaners.
- Replenish restroom supplies such as hand soap, paper towels, and toilet paper, ensuring adequate stock levels for occupants' needs.
Trash Removal:
- Collect and empty trash, recyclables, and waste materials from bins, receptacles, or designated collection points, following recycling guidelines and disposal procedures.
- Replace trash liners, clean trash cans, and sanitize disposal areas to prevent odors and contamination.
Surface Disinfection:
- Wipe down and disinfect high-touch surfaces, such as doorknobs, handrails, light switches, and elevator buttons, to reduce the spread of germs and pathogens.
- Sanitize common areas, including tables, chairs, countertops, and shared equipment, to promote health and safety for occupants or visitors.
Floor Care and Maintenance:
- Perform floor care tasks such as buffing, polishing, waxing, and stripping floors to maintain shine, durability, and longevity of floor surfaces.
- Clean carpets, rugs, and upholstery using carpet extractors, steam cleaners, or shampooing machines to remove stains, odors, and allergens.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a cleaner, janitor, custodian, or housekeeper is beneficial but not always required.
- Knowledge of cleaning techniques, equipment, and products used in janitorial services, including floor care, restroom sanitation, and surface disinfection.
- Attention to detail and thoroughness in performing cleaning tasks to achieve high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and presentation.
