Overview
The Cargo Security Officer is an essential role within our organization, responsible for safeguarding cargo and ensuring compliance with security regulations throughout the transportation and storage processes. This position requires a vigilant, detail-oriented individual who can effectively monitor and manage potential security risks, implement safety protocols, and foster a secure environment for both personnel and cargo. Duties
Monitoring and Surveillance
- Conduct regular inspections of cargo areas, including loading docks, storage facilities, and transportation vehicles.
- Utilize surveillance equipment to monitor cargo operations, detect security breaches, and respond promptly to incidents.
Access Control
- Implement strict access control measures to ensure that only authorized personnel enter cargo areas.
- Perform background checks and screenings for individuals accessing sensitive areas to maintain a secure environment.
Policy Enforcement
- Develop, implement, and enforce security protocols and procedures in compliance with industry regulations and company policies.
- Provide training and guidance to staff regarding cargo security measures, promoting a culture of safety and vigilance.
Incident Response and Reporting
- Respond to alarms, security breaches, and emergency situations in a timely and effective manner.
- Document all incidents thoroughly, maintaining accurate records of security activities, inspections, and access logs for auditing purposes.
Collaboration with Authorities
- Work closely with law enforcement and emergency services as necessary, maintaining effective communication during incidents.
- Participate in security audits and assessments conducted by external agencies, providing necessary documentation and cooperation.
Risk Assessment
- Regularly assess potential security risks and vulnerabilities associated with cargo handling and transportation processes.
- Recommend improvements to security measures and protocols based on observed trends and incidents.
Continuous Improvement
- Stay informed about emerging security threats, industry best practices, and technological advancements in cargo security.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance skills and knowledge relevant to the role.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional certifications in security or law enforcement preferred.
- Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or cargo handling is advantageous.
- Strong observational and analytical skills.
