Overview
A Carer, also known as a caregiver or support worker, provides assistance and support to individuals who require help with daily activities due to illness, disability, or aging. They play a vital role in improving the quality of life and maintaining independence for those they care for.
Duties
# Personal Care:
- Assist clients with personal hygiene tasks, including bathing, grooming, and dressing.
- Provide assistance with toileting and mobility as needed.
- Respectfully uphold the dignity and privacy of each client at all times.
# Medication Management:
- Administer medications according to prescribed schedules and dosages.
- Maintain accurate records of medication administration and any observed side effects.
- Communicate with healthcare professionals and family members regarding medication management as necessary.
# Meal Preparation and Nutrition:
- Prepare nutritious meals and snacks based on dietary preferences and restrictions.
- Encourage healthy eating habits and proper hydration.
- Monitor food intake and address any concerns or changes in appetite.
# Emotional Support and Companionship:
- Offer companionship and emotional support through attentive listening and genuine empathy.
- Engage clients in meaningful conversations and activities to promote socialization and mental stimulation.
- Provide encouragement and reassurance during times of distress or uncertainty.
# Household Assistance:
- Assist with light housekeeping tasks, such as tidying up living spaces and doing laundry.
- Help with grocery shopping and meal planning, if needed.
- Maintain a safe and comfortable environment for clients by addressing any hazards or concerns.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in caregiving or a related field preferred.
- Compassionate and patient demeanor with a genuine desire to help others.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and empathy.
- Basic knowledge of healthcare practices and medication administration.
- Relevant certifications or training in caregiving (e.g., First Aid/CPR certification) a plus.
