Overview

Bus drivers play a crucial role in the transportation industry by safely and efficiently transporting passengers to their destinations. They operate various types of buses, including city buses, intercity coaches, and school buses, adhering to traffic regulations and ensuring passenger safety.


Duties

Vehicle Operation:

  • Operate buses according to predetermined routes and schedules, following established timetables and pickup/drop-off points.
  • Drive defensively and responsibly, adhering to traffic laws, speed limits, and safety regulations to ensure the safety of passengers, pedestrians, and other road users.

Passenger Assistance:

  • Greet passengers courteously, provide assistance with boarding and alighting, and ensure a comfortable and pleasant travel experience.
  • Assist passengers with disabilities, elderly individuals, or those with special needs, including securing mobility aids and offering seating assistance.

Route Navigation:

  • Navigate routes using maps, GPS systems, or route knowledge, making timely and accurate adjustments to route deviations, detours, or traffic congestion.
  • Maintain awareness of route hazards, construction zones, and road closures, and communicate relevant information to passengers as needed.

Vehicle Maintenance:

  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of buses, checking for mechanical defects, safety hazards, and cleanliness.
  • Report any maintenance issues or safety concerns to appropriate personnel, and ensure that vehicles are properly maintained and serviced according to company policies and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Possession of a valid driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle being operated.
  • Previous experience driving large vehicles, such as buses, coaches, or trucks.
  • Demonstrated safe driving record with no major traffic violations or accidents.
  • Ability to pass a medical examination, including vision and hearing tests, to ensure fitness for driving.
