Overview
A Bus Driver is responsible for safely transporting passengers along designated routes, adhering to schedules, and providing excellent customer service. They play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and comfort of passengers while operating buses for public transit systems, schools, tour companies, or private organizations.
Duties
Safe Vehicle Operation:
- Operate buses safely and defensively, following traffic laws, regulations, and company policies to prevent accidents, injuries, or property damage.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections of buses, checking tires, brakes, lights, signals, and other components for proper functioning and addressing any maintenance issues or safety concerns.
Passenger Transport:
- Safely transport passengers to their destinations along designated routes.
- Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking, including those with special needs or mobility chalennges.
- Collect fares and issue tickets or passes as required.
Route Navigation:
- Navigate designated routes efficiently and on schedule, following maps, GPS systems, or route instructions, and adjusting routes or schedules as needed to accommodate traffic, construction, or detours.
- Provide route information, directions, or assistance to passengers, answering questions, announcing stops, and communicating route changes or delays effectively.
Vehicle Maintenance:
- Perform routine cleaning and maintenance tasks on buses, including interior cleaning, refueling, fluid checks, and reporting any mechanical issues or defects to maintenance personnel.
- Perform basic maintenance tasks such as refueling, checking fluid levels, and cleaning the exterior of the bus.
- Coordinate with maintenance personnel for scheduled maintenance and repairs as needed.
Customer Service:
- Interact professionally with passengers, coworkers, supervisors, and the public, addressing inquiries, concerns, or complaints courteously and effectively.
- Foster a positive and welcoming atmosphere on the bus, promoting good behavior, respect for others, and adherence to safety rules and regulations.
Qualifications:
- Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with passenger endorsement.
- Clean driving record with no history of accidents or traffic violations.
- Previous experience as a bus driver or in a similar role preferred.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with passengers and colleagues
- Knowledge of local traffic laws, routes, and landmarks.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
