Overview

Duties

Construction Planning:

  • Review architectural plans, blueprints, or specifications to understand the layout, dimensions, and materials required for construction projects.
  • Collaborate with project managers, contractors, and other construction professionals to coordinate work schedules, order materials, and ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.

Preparation and Layout:

  • Prepare the worksite by clearing debris, setting up scaffolding or ladders, and ensuring a safe and organized environment for construction activities.
  • Use tools such as tape measures, levels, and plumb bobs to mark layout lines, establish reference points, and ensure accurate alignment of bricks or blocks.

Masonry Construction:

  • Lay bricks, concrete blocks, or stone units in mortar beds according to specified patterns, designs, and bond configurations.
  • Cut or trim bricks to size using hand or power tools, and shape them as needed to fit corners, curves, or architectural details.

Quality Control:

  • Monitor the quality of workmanship throughout the construction process, inspecting finished walls for alignment, plumbness, and adherence to design specifications.
  • Identify and rectify any defects, irregularities, or structural weaknesses in masonry work to ensure the integrity and stability of the finished structure.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a bricklaying apprenticeship program or vocational training in masonry is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with construction techniques, tools, and equipment used in bricklaying.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, architectural drawings, and construction plans.
  • Understanding of occupational health and safety regulations and practices in the construction industry.
