Overview

Duties

Reading Blueprints and Plans:

  • They calculate measurements, determine materials needed, and plan the sequence of construction tasks accordingly.

Preparing Worksite and Materials:

  • Bricklayers prepare the worksite by clearing debris, setting up scaffolding or other safety equipment, and ensuring proper ventilation.
  • They gather and organize materials such as bricks, blocks, mortar, and tools needed for the job, ensuring that everything is readily accessible.

Masonry Construction:

  • Bricklayers lay bricks or blocks in various patterns and configurations, following precise measurements and guidelines provided in the blueprints.
  • They use tools such as trowels, hammers, levels, and saws to cut, shape, and align masonry materials accurately.

Applying Mortar and Grout:

  • Bricklayers spread mortar or grout between bricks or blocks, bonding them together and ensuring structural integrity.
  • They use techniques such as buttering, jointing, and pointing to achieve strong and aesthetically pleasing joints.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a bricklaying apprenticeship or certification program
